MUSIC

Not all novels need a soundtrack, but it seemed that in the writing of Semblance Anon, music has a deep meaning. The young girl in the story, Delwyn, was able to have a spiritual connection with her mother through the song "Moonglow" - a lullaby that Elise made up in order to soothe a child living in a world of uncertainty. Moonglow had it's only lyrics that married up to a tune written specifically for the book.

"As a writer, I have often used background music to help establish a tone or mood. This allowed me to keep in the moment, and also maintain a good writing rhythm and pace."

Having written a number of podcast themes, short film scores, it wasn't long before music found its way into the writing. Semblance Anon marked the occasion with lyrics to a lullaby, written and later composed by Stephen on the piano.

"When music found its way into the story, I turned to the piano and sure enough, the melody of "Moonglow" became the theme for mother and daughter that conveyed courage when facing difficulties alone."

Soon enough, other themes followed, and in the blink of an eye, a complete soundtrack of music, inspired by the novel Semblance Anon was born. Combining piano, and synthesizers, guitar and voice, the complete soundtrack is an emotional companion to the story.
